| Relative Progression plays with my family relationships from childhood through my married life and divorce to present day. The arrangement of design elements (squares and wires) reflects the interwoven relationships between father, mother and siblings. Millennium, the fourth in a series, eliminates one of the squares to depict my personal relationship with my children. A new element is introduced to each of the sibling squares, indicating an addition to their lives (spouses). The grouping is held together by one secured circle and one loose ring, indicating the security of the family tie with openness for growth and freedom. The circles also create the image of a rising sun. Because of the narrative quality of this work, I mounted the brooches on a canvas to be hung. Each can be worn individually, but together they depict my story. (Mounted: 4" x 10" x ¾".) |
